Greetings from Indianapolis.  Jon and I have arrived for the
convention.  We are here a day early.  With our extra day we planned to   explore Indianapolis. Unfortunately, we did not.  We spent the day at the local hospital with yet another adventure with Allen Miller.  Allen suffered a mild stroke.  He is well on the road to recovery and was able to join the last two days of the convention.
The convention was wonderful. It was the usual good time of chatting with acquaintances from all over the country. The Central Indiana Chapter kept us very busy from the opening concert with Simon Gledhill to the Afterglow on a paddle boat on the Ohio River.   There are several events that stand out.  They were the Young Organist Completion and the concert by Richard Hills.
All three of the young organists were very good.  The winner, Jonathan Ortloff , is from the Rochester area. Perhaps he could be persuaded to present a concert for us.  The young lady - only 14 years old- from England was a delight.  Her appearance was that of a little princess. She performed very well and likely shall be a future winner.  Her talent has already been recognized with a visit with by the Queen!   Don Phipps from the Eastern Mass Chapter won the ATOS Member of the Year award.

The preview of next year’s convention in looks Cleveland is very inviting.  It shall take place June 30- July 6. Much of it shall be within walking distance of the hotel.  Put it on the calendar now.

 Bylaws Change

The first amendment to the present bylaws affects the manner in which we elect officers, to allow all members to have the opportunity to participate in the election.  With our changing demographics and fewer members able to attend all meetings, it is important that all have an opportunity to vote.  The bylaws committee proposes that the method of voting be by secret ballot. The ballots shall be sent through the U S Postal Service.

This change shall involve removing the existing method from the bylaws and replacing it with a new set of criteria.  The new proposal is very similar to our original bylaws.  The main changes are in dates and the mailing of the ballot.

No person shall hold more than one elected office simultaneously.  The secretary shall be a resident of the state of Connecticut.  After serving two consecutive terms the President shall not be eligible to serve another term until at least one year shall have elapsed from the date of expiration of his last term.

A nominating committee for election of officers shall be appointed annually by the president. It shall consist of a Chairperson and two members all of whom shall be voting members in good standing. The nominating committee shall be formed in late September.  The committee shall then determine a slate of candidates for the ballot.  A request for additional candidates shall be sent to the membership via the U. S. Mail, email or the newsletter.  Any person duly qualified and nominated in this manner shall be contacted for approval of their addition to the slate.

The ballot with the slate of candidates shall be sent out to members in good standing on November 1st.  The completed ballot must be postmarked by and November 21st.   The ballot shall be sent to and counted by the secretary unless the secretary is running for re-election.   A neutral party shall then be asked to count the ballots.  The results of the election shall be given to the President who shall announce the results at the December membership meeting.  The officers begin their term on January 1st.

The present Bylaws and proposed revisions are attached.
